Kano APC Unveils Campaign Council, Waiya’s Exclusion Raises Political Questions

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a high-powered Campaign Advisory Council as part of efforts to strengthen its political structures and coordinate activities ahead of the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will chair the council, which is expected to serve as the party’s highest advisory body on campaign strategy, political mobilisation, stakeholder engagement and the coordination of electioneering activities across the state.

Hotpen reports that the revised list features veteran journalists, experienced politicians, academics and technocrats regarded as individuals of considerable standing. The council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

However, the composition of the council has sparked political interest, particularly following the omission of Ibrahim Waiya, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs.

Waiya’s absence from a committee expected to play a central role in shaping campaign messaging, managing political communication and driving public engagement has raised questions among political observers about the considerations that informed the selection.

Given the strategic importance of information management during an election cycle, the omission has drawn attention to the relationship between the state government’s information machinery and the party’s campaign structure.

It remains unclear, however, whether Waiya’s exclusion was a deliberate political decision, an administrative oversight or a consequence of specific criteria adopted in constituting the council. No conclusion can be drawn without an official explanation from the party.

As the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections, the composition of its campaign leadership is likely to remain under political scrutiny. Beyond the personalities appointed, attention will focus on the council’s internal balance, the distribution of responsibilities and the extent to which key stakeholders have been accommodated.

For now, Waiya’s omission stands out as one of the most notable aspects of the announcement. It raises questions about the party’s approach to integrating government communication officials into its campaign machinery and whether the decision carries any broader political implications.

An official clarification from the party could help explain the considerations behind the council’s composition and shed light on how the Kano APC intends to align its political and communication structures ahead of the crucial 2027 elections.
