The Federal Road Safety Corps, RS1.4 Jigawa Sector Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of the African Road Safety Charter and regional road safety initiatives aimed at reducing road traffic crashes across West Africa.

The Jigawa Sector Commander, Commandant Umar Mas’ud, stated this during the commemoration of the 2026 West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) Day held in Dutse.

According to him, the WARSO/AARSLA Secretariat was recently commissioned by the Chairman of the Federal Road Safety Corps, represented by the Federal Character Commissioner representing Plateau State, alongside key road safety stakeholders from across Africa, the SSATP, and the World Bank.

He explained that the establishment of the Secretariat was aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in transport governance and promoting safer roads across the African continent.

The Sector Commander noted that the 2026 WARSO Day campaign comes at a critical time when road safety stakeholders are intensifying efforts to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities through strategic partnerships, public enlightenment campaigns, improved enforcement, and responsible road use behaviour.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to the philosophy and objectives of WARSO, particularly in promoting professionalism, regional cooperation, and safe mobility for all road users.

According to him, the Federal Road Safety Corps continues to play a leading role in advancing road safety initiatives not only in Nigeria but across the Sahel region through collaboration with relevant agencies and stakeholders.

As part of activities marking the 2026 WARSO Day celebration, the Dutse Command engaged drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, community leaders, and other stakeholders on the importance of complying with traffic regulations.

The command warned against dangerous driving habits such as overspeeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, and the use of mobile phones while driving.

The Sector Commander further disclosed that the command aligns with the Corps Marshal’s 2026 strategic direction focused on renewed commitment, professionalism, operational efficiency, discipline, public confidence, and improved service delivery.

He stressed that road crashes are preventable when motorists and other road users adhere strictly to traffic rules, maintain vehicle roadworthiness, and practice patience and discipline on the roads.

He therefore urged the public to cooperate with traffic and emergency agencies in promoting safer roads across the state.

The Sector Commander also appreciated the support of the Jigawa State Government, security agencies, transport unions, media organisations, special marshals, and members of the public for their contributions toward reducing road traffic crashes in the state during the first quarter of 2026.

“Together, we can achieve zero fatalities from road traffic crashes in Jigawa State,” he stated.
