A prominent political leader in Okun land, Otunba Duro Olusegun Aseremaseka, has declared that no individual can successfully emerge as a Senator or Member of the House of Representatives in Kogi West without the support and political influence of His Excellency,Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide.
The statement was delivered by Mallam Olawalesi Isiaka Abdulsalami on behalf of Otunba Aseremaseka at the grand reception of the final burial rites of the late Obaro of Iyamoye, HRM Oba Ibrahim Momoh Ademinuyi, held in Iyamoye, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State on the 7th February, 2026
Otunba Aseremaseka, who also doubles as the Maiyegun of Aiyede Amuro, emphasized that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide’s political relevance cuts across Okun land and the entire Kogi State, a status earned through years of consistent, people oriented performance. He recalled that Abejide was honoured with the traditional title “Gbobaniyi of Iyamoye” by the late monarch in recognition of his outstanding contributions to community development and unwavering support for the traditional institution across the state.
According to the statement as read by Mallam Olawalesi Isiaka Abdulsalami, political eloquence and grammar do not equate to performance, stressing that Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide is well-read, experienced, and deeply understands the needs of the people.
“If Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide contests under any political party, he will win hands down. This has been tested and proven twice through his back-to-back electoral victories,” the statement noted.
He further stated that the current member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency emerged largely through Abejide’s political support, adding that future occupants of the seat will continue to depend on his endorsement.
“Our people always wait for Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide to pronounce his candidate before making their decision, and that tradition remains intact,” the statement added.
Speaking further through Mallam Olawalesi Isiaka Abdulsalami, Otunba Aseremaseka disclosed that he would only contest in future elections if directed by his political principal, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, noting that the electorate has become wiser and more politically conscious.
On comparisons between Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide and Senator Dino Melaye, the statement dismissed such debates and challenged Melaye to publicly showcase his legislative achievements in both the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly.
